Pakistani Designer Dresses 2011 Biography
Cheena Chhapra is a person who makes clothes for her passion and also to help and support people with diabetes especially children. Famous for designing clothes for big size ladies. Her recent success has been with block prints that are unique and the patterns are designed to suit her clients.
Cheena has been designing clothes for twenty years. After marriage family has always been a priority to the extent that she put her designing passion behind her and also joined bay view academy to be close to her diabetic son since he was three. Even as a teacher her sense of attire was unique and appreciated by parents and teachers alike. Now that her son is nine years old and confident to be on his own, Cheena has decided to come back to her passion as a full time designer.
She has been designing again for the last one year and during this short period her popularity with her clients has excelled. with numerous exhibitions that have all been sold out, selected to be the lead designer for the Marina Khan's drama serial "Dolly Ke Ayae Ge Barat" and "Ak Nazar Mare Taraf", interview with Nida Yasir on ARY on "how to dress large size women" Cheena's creation continues to be loved by all.
She loves to experiment with all types of fabrics using more than four to five fabrics at the same time and the ladies love it. No one piece is copied making each outfit unique. Cheena does not believe in coping and as she says "less is more". She is happy to design cloths for plus size ladies. Her education in applied arts from college of home economics won her third prize in all Pakistan by designing uniform for college girls and the design made it to magazines like news line, fashion collection, mag and many more. She has also made clothes for Shabana Azmi and Sherlee Maclane and also for Frieha Altaf who still loves her clothes.
With so many designers in Karachi Cheena still finds her place for herself amongst the big, beautiful, low key,humble, gracious clients which she believes that have been over looked in Pakistan. Now that Karachi has become a place where being a designer is like "you know everything about clothes" Cheena still believes that it is the cut and the stitching that is important, a view shared by her clients.
Cheena does not like to call herself a designer and says that a person who makes beautiful clothes should never compromise on quality especially stitching. continuing to still work with several materials like chickan kari, shaffon, chunri, ajraks, cottons, linens, silks and many more, she is now busy preparing her new project on Egyptian designs and her fashion show for an NGO. Cheena has recently started to display her clothes at labels Karachi and working on the same for labels Faisalabad.
Her focus on quality, stitching and somewhat conservative yet trendy designs continues to make Cheena an appealing choice of a designer loved by her clients as much as she loves them.
